The Graham Anderson Show 10.17.11

This has been a phenomenal week in sports.  Football season is in full swing and it has not disappointed.  The University of Utah got a solid road win at Pitt, but still leaving us wondering what they’re truly capable of moving forward.  If Jon Hays can play solid football, this team could very well win out.  The BYU season is growing more and more inconsequential while the general college football landscape becomes even more exciting as the true powerhouses begin to separate themselves.  Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh almost went to blows highlighting yet another ridiculously entertaining week in the NFL.  Oh, and in case I wasn’t clear…Tiger Woods is going to dominate the sport of golf yet again.

A monster thank you to John Wells Stevens for bringing his A game to the show this week.  He brought it for his fans, and they shouldn’t be disappointed.

The Graham Anderson Show 10.10.11

I think I’m having deja vu.  If you have watched the University of Utah football team play the last two weeks, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

You’ve got to give Tim Tebow the ball at this point.  The 49ers and Lions are for real.  The Packers are without question the best team in the league, but don’t go to sleep on the Saints just yet.

The NBA is in shambles.  Owners have been overpaying players for years…so the players are being overpaid.  Watching Stern and D. Fisher talk about the status of the talks last night made me physically ill.

Tiger Woods will dominate the sport of golf again.  There is nothing I am more sure of.

The Graham Anderson Show 10.3.11

What in the wide world of sports happened on Saturday? After a dominating performance in Provo only two weeks prior, the same Utah team showed up to Rice-Eccles Stadium and laid an egg.  An opening kickoff fumble returned for a touchdown, four other turnovers including two inside the 5 yard line, and bonehead penalties at inopportune times led to their 31-14 demise.  And to make this all sound even more grim, starting quarterback, Jordan Wynn, will be out for the next 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury leaving Juco transfer, Jon Hays (Butte College), to start his first ever Division 1 football game against top 25 ranked Arizona State this coming Saturday.  Let’s hope he starts channeling his inner-Brett Ratliff (Butte College) right about now…

The Graham Anderson Show 9.19.11

Utah – 54, BYU – 10….What in the world just happened?  In one of the most bizarre games in the history of the rivalry, the University of Utah absolutely destroyed BYU in every facet of the game, forcing 7 turnovers, racking up 500 yards of total offense, and then finishing the game with 47 unanswered points.  Say what you will about how and why this all happened, but in the end, Utah just has better players and better coaches than BYU.

The Graham Anderson Show 9.14.11

12 of the last 14 years the BYU-Utah game has been decided by 7 points or less.  The last 6 games have been split evenly.  Utah is 4-3 in Provo during the last 14 years.  Normally we have a full season to prepare for this game, and we usually have a pretty good idea about each team.  This year, there are more uncertainties than ever before.  After an offseason of hype, is Jake Heaps as good as everyone thought he was?  Have the Utah’s players grasped Norm Chow’s offense yet?  Does Brandon Doman know what he’s doing?  Amidst all of the questions there are two things that we know for certain….Bronco is going to be wearing old khaki pants, a black belt, and his Band of Brothers tee, and this is going to be a spectacular game.

The Graham Anderson Show 9.12.11

Do I believe in moral victories?  Absolutely.  It would have been great if Utah would have been able to pull of the victory on Saturday in the Coliseum, but the gritty performance proved a lot about this team’s ability to go on the road and smack a big-time opponent in the mouth, especially after getting off to a slow start.  (And did I use an Ivan Drago analogy to better illustrate this during the show?  Absolutely again.)  Utah fans should take comfort in several things that happened on Saturday: Jordan Wynn didn’t turn the ball over, moved the chains, and put his team in position to win a tough game on the road.  Devonte Christopher, Dres Anderson, and Reggie Dunn proved that Utah has some legit playmakers.  Joe Kruger is a monster.  Brian Blechen is a crazy person.  John White IV may be the toughest dude on the field and is quickly winning the hearts of every Utah fan on planet earth.  With that said, what can we expect to happen this Saturday in Provo?  Flip a coin….it’s honestly our best option.

The Graham Anderson Show 9.2.11

The atmosphere at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah is a little different than what I’ve been experiencing these last few years at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium in the Bronx (home of the Columbia University Lions!!!!).  The Utes got off to an interesting start last night.  The 27-10 final can be deceiving in either direction.  After jumping out to a dominant 24-0 lead, the team seemed to relax and then allow an inferior, but better than expected, opponent to make the game seem respectable.  Is Norm Chow’s offense going to work?  Does Jordan Wynn have the mettle to lead this team to a possible Pac-12 Championship?  Is Kyle Whittingham ready for a 12 game season of tough games every single week?  Based on what we saw last night, what are we excited about and what are we nervous for?  Can we schedule Wyoming and New Mexico in the middle of the year so we can pad some stats and rest our starters?  MUSS President, Sean Davenport, joins the show to break down the game and talk about the future of Utah football.

The Graham Anderson Show 8.26.11

Tiger Woods should be on the U.S. Presidents Cup team and anyone that says otherwise is talking crazy.  Michael Vick is going to struggle on and off this year.  Arian Foster will see a 25-30% decline in production.  Terrelle Pryor will never be the starting quarterback of an NFL team.  Tim Tebow may not be the Broncos quarterback right now, but they at least need to get him on the field to impact the game.  The NCAA needs to clean up this mess and they need to do it fast.  The NBA owners and players association need to lock themselves in a room for two weeks and sort out their differences before we start missing games after having maybe the most successful season in the history of the sport.  ….man, I needed to get all of that off of my chest…enjoy the show!

The Graham Anderson Show 8.11.11

How did I not know that Bronco Mendenhall used to rock a ponytail before he coached at BYU?  Football season is fast upon us, and for those of you that live in Utah, that means hatred, malice, and irrational fandom is swirling at an all-time high.  BYU and Utah are both coming into the season looking at a completely new landscape, but still holding on to high hopes and high expectations.  John Wells Stevens joins me to break down the upcoming Cougar season.  Bubba Brown, Daily Utah Chronicle sports writer, breaks down the upcoming University of Utah season, and R.J. Rice, former University of Utah almost All-American safety, breaks down the ups, downs, and in-betweens of fall camp.

The Graham Anderson Show 6.10.11

I lost a little bit of respect for D. Wade when I found this picture, but I spend enough time praising him in this podcast that it should make up for it.  Lebron James being the best player in the world for weeks at a time and then showing up and playing like C.J. Miles the next, T. Pryor and the mess in Columbus, Tiger Woods hurt instead of dominating majors, Rep. Weiner, and some movie catch-up….you’re not going to want to miss a thing.

The Graham Anderson Show 3.3.11

“The only thing I’m addicted to right now is winning.”  Charlie Sheen has said things that we will be talking about for years to come.  Mike Tyson better come out with some new material soon so he doesn’t lose his title of “the craziest things ever said on television by a famous person”.  Trey Clark joins the show again to talk Sheen, Governor Mark Sanford, Brandon Davies, and the Oscars.  And in case anyone was wondering, “I’m just going to sail across the winds of the universe with my goddesses.”
